Evangelist – Five Fold Ministry

(Ephesians 4:11-15)

The word evangelist means one who proclaims the Good News. This person has the ability to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others, in such a way, that the believers are able to receive the knowledge of Jesus Christ and convert to Christianity.

The main characteristics of an evangelist are:

  • The anointing of signs and wonders. God equips the evangelist with a special anointing to work miracles and healing. Because the evangelist’s message is directed to the lost – people who often need to witness live demonstrations of God’s power – he/she has the anointing to perform signs, wonders, and marvels.
  • The evangelistic anointing is for reaching the unbeliever. God has equipped the evangelist with an anointed message in order to reach the lost.
  • The focus of the evangelist’s message is the crucifixion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. God has equipped each evangelist to proclaim repentance and reconciliation between God and man through Jesus’ sacrifice at the Cross of Calvary.

The evangelist is passionate for the souls. God has anointed him/her with the passion to go and preach Jesus to everyone who needs to know Jesus, and they have a great love for the lost and a burden for the souls. Evangelists must function under the pastoral spiritual covering. God has not called them to work alone but as part of the body, where everyone needs the other and everyone is accountable to someone else.
